Boise Idaho Net Zero Home Featured on Earth Day

This Net-Zero home was built by Flynner Homes in Nampa, Idaho. It includes solar as well as other building science technology to reduce the energy demands of this home. Over the course of a year it should have a $0 utility bill.

re energy efficient homes the next big thing? The trend has swept through parts of California and Florida. Now one homeowner in Nampa shows off his new dream home, which is green as it gets.

Homeowner Joe Rengel says his house is a net-zero home and should literally cost around ‘zero dollars a year’ when it comes to utility bills.

This home runs on mostly solar power for electricity and hot water. Renewable Energy NW says the passive solar system also allows the sun to heat the home in the winter using special solar windows.

One of the main features in the home is the walls that absorb energy, so the home stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Joe took it a step further after building his ultimate green home with energy efficient appliances. He brightened up the house with energy efficient LED lights and has an induction stove that runs from magnetic force rather than electricity.

Adding all of these solar power options to a home like Joe’s home costs around $45,000, but experts say there are many green features that are more affordable. See Video
